After graduating from John Hersey High School, Peter attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, where he earned a bachelors degree in music education. Peter has been a firefighter/paramedic for the past 15 years. He began his career, at the urging of neighbors and his parents, as a volunteer firefighter in Prospect Heights. Pete is now a member of the Elk Grove Village Fire Department. "Being a firefighter is both mentally and physically challenging. I get a great degree of personal satisfaction from the camaraderie among my fellow firefighters/paramedics and knowing that I am helping people everyday." -Peter Gutzmer Peter got his first taste of politics while helping pass a bond referendum to address much needed improvements to equipment in the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and later during his campaign for Alderman in the same community. A self described progressive Democrat, Peter has been happily married to his wife Nelly for 10 years. They currently live with their two children, Adelle 8 and Ethan 5, in Hoffman Estates. When Peter isn't putting out fires or responding to emergency calls, he enjoys reading, hunting and fishing with his family in Wisconsin.
