Campaign Contributions: ISBE Disclosure Reports
Dan Kotowski represents a new era of democratic leadership in Illinois. He is focused on solving the practical problems families face today, such as:
# Providing quality education; # Securing affordable healthcare; # Guaranteeing that the dream of home ownership stays within reach; and # Promoting a vibrant business environment.
With roots in the traditions of Illinois, he is open to new ideas and drawn to finding innovative solutions to age-old problems.
Born and raised in Chicago, Dan lives with his wife Anne and sons Nate and Cooper in Park Ridge. He is educated in Illinois (Loyola Academy, University of Illinois, and DePaul University) and committed to public service.
Ask many of the areas trusted leaders and they will have great things to say about Dan's ability to lead and serve as a respected advocate for quality in the 33rd District. Until his election as State Senator, Dan served as vice president of development and public affairs for Uhlich Children's Advantage Network, (UCAN), a multi-faceted human service agency that serves 5,000 children and families a year. In his role, Dan moves easily between the legislature in Springfield, the executive suites at some of Illinois' largest corporations and the living rooms of local families. His responsibilities include a unique blend of issues and people and he has been successful in leading all towards one single objective: building a better environment for children and families in Illinois.
Dan knows that as a State Senator, he can work with the business and civic community to create and sustain opportunity for all people, whether they earn minimum wage or run a small business. His campaign will focus on three broad themes: increasing security, demanding responsibility and creating opportunity.
Previous to UCAN, Dan made his mark running a small software company and serving as executive director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (ICHV). At ICHV, Dan helped usher in unprecedented policy change and financial growth for the organization. Dan worked tirelessly to pass legislation protecting women, children and families from violence; and organized a coalition of 1,000 community based, health and religious organizations behind a singular cause.
For his efforts, Dan was awarded a scholarship from the Leadership 2000 Scholarship Program. He also was honored with two, victim advocacy awards from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office; and was asked to provide public safety counsel to Democratic and Republican leadership in Springfield and Washington, DC.
Dan is the son of Casimir and Mary (Jinx) Kotowski. Having both studied for religious vocations, his parents set a wonderful, faith-based example for Dan to follow. One of five siblings (three brothers, one sister), Dan attended Daniel Boone Elementary School and then Loyola Academy in Wilmette. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in English and Communications, and recently received a Masters of Arts Degree from DePaul University, graduating with distinction.
