Race for Congress

3/12/2008

Would it be too much to say that he'd kill to be Congressman?

For those who think politics is already a blood sport, hold on to your hats.

"Dr. Death" Jack Kevorkian has announced he's running for Congress in Michigan as an independent:
Assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian plans to run for Congress, complicating a Michigan race that is expected to be among the most competitive in the nation.

The so-called "Dr. Death," who was released from prison last year and remains on parole, will run as a candidate with no party affiliation for a congressional seat representing Detroit's suburbs, an associate said.

"Jack is in great spirits, and he intends to do this. He just hopes for some honesty in government," said Ruth Holmes, Kevorkian's longtime jury consultant.

I think a poll of political consultants would show 9 out of 10 agreeing that most campaigns don't ever want to have a "jury consultant" on board. And especially not speaking for your campaign. That 1 is probably a Blagojevich adviser.

So, what's Jack looking to talk about?
Kevorkian plans to focus on prison reform and bringing integrity to the government, Holmes said. She said the retired pathologist was not available for an interview and would make a formal announcement next week.

Hey, if anyone knows what needs to be reformed about prisons, I guess it's a guy who's spent a good deal of time there.

This is sure to be a - ahem - slaughter.
