Finally, a word Mayor Daley can use with confidence

We all know that Mayor Daley has a special kind of love affair with the English language. It knows he doesn't always treat it that well, but deep down inside, it knows that it's really all done out of love.

Daley does seem to have an exceptional fervor for one particular word: silly.

Here's Daley's take on the Chicago federal hiring monitor's award of $75,000 to the son of Ald. Bernie Stone:
Mayor Daley today climbed aboard the bandwagon of politicians ridiculing a federal hiring monitor for awarding $75,000 to the son of Ald. Bernard Stone (50th) as compensation for a 2003 aldermanic election stacked against Jay Stone. ...

... "Ald. Stone just won. I guess his opponent could say that someone stacked it against her. How 'bout volunteers? You've got union representatives. I guess all the candidates that lost will blame the unions and file a complaint against the unions for stacking it against them, taking political money and taking people off of jobs. So, I think it's silly," Daley said.

And like all good things, it's even better when used to excess:
"It is silly. It's silly. Bald-headed! He's bald-headed! Is that silly? No. Come on!" the mayor said, avoiding questions about the ongoing federal patronage trial.

Oh, what a silly web we weave...

You can always count on Mayor Daley for a nice bit of rhetorical fun.
