Open Secrets Profile

A native son of District 13, Scott grew up in Naperville. He went to high school at Naperville Central, where he was on the Dean's List, was a National Merit Scholar, and won varsity letters in tennis and soccer. Scott was also a member of both the Ski Patrol and Ski School at Four Lakes Village in Lisle.

As a successful entrepreneur, Scott will work hard in Congress to support small businesses and encourage entrepreneurs in developing new enterprises. He built (with partner David Ormesher) Closer Look, a media, design and marketing consulting firm from the original two partners to a robust firm of over 40 people and from $100,000 in annual revenue to $5,000,000 - all without venture, angel, or bank loan backing. He understands first-hand what it takes to grow a company and meet a payroll, and how regulations and health care costs impact a company's bottom line.

Prior to founding Closer Look, Scott was a manufacturing consultant. He was an expert in using integrated enterprise management systems to reduce inventory, improve throughput and increase global competitiveness. The circumstances of his position allowed Scott the opportunity to see firsthand over 60 countries, how government policies can help ordinary people build better lives for themselves, or how they can hamper them from reaching their full potential. Scott was also a manufacturing executive at Jeep Corporation before concentrating on consulting.

Scott has been blessed with a wonderful family. He has two adult daughters of whom he is very proud. His eldest, Natasha (24), is finishing her degree in architecture from the Pratt Institute of Design in Brooklyn. Briana (22) is a double major in economics and political science at Barnard/Columbia in Manhattan. She has spent the past 2 summers working in Ethiopia and India helping to reduce poverty.

The 13th District of Illinois is a family-oriented, highly educated and high median-income district, and Scott will be a strong advocate and representative for its citizens. Scott completed his undergraduate degree at nearby Wheaton College, majoring in history. He received his MBA from University of Chicago with a concentration in finance, and was taught by several Nobel laureates in economics. After selling his company, Scott completed an M.A. in theology at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. There he developed an interest in the field of science and religion. He spent 2 years studying biology, chemistry and physics as an undergraduate at UIC. Those two experiences allowed Scott to successfully matriculate into Oxford University in England, where he has received a Master's degree, and is currently a doctoral candidate. Scott has taken a leave of absence from Oxford in order to run for Congress at this critical time for our country.
